"Why Did the Turkey Cross the Road?"

It was Thanksgiving Day and JD Dunne was celebrating the holiday with his girlfriend, Casey Wells, and her aunt, Nettie.  The meal was going relatively well considering JD had just tipped over his drink onto Nettie's brand new tablecloth.  Casey smiled reassuringly at him while Nettie insisted it wasn't a problem and left to retrieve him a new beverage.  When she returned, the three of them began to dig in on the wonderful meal that was prepared.

"Everything is delicious," complimented JD who was trying to make up for his earlier clumsiness.

"Thank you, JD," replied Nettie as she smiled at the young man.

A few moments of silence passed as the three of them continued to eat.  Finally, JD decided some type of chatter was in order.  "So, do you all want to hear some jokes?" he asked after swallowing a mouthful of turkey.  "I heard a couple good Thanksgiving ones on the radio yesterday . . ."

"Sure," replied Casey as she smiled at JD's enthusiasm.

"Ok," replied JD as he sat his fork down.  "Why did the police arrest the turkey?"

"Why?" asked Casey.

"They suspected it of fowl play," replied the young ATF agent who began chuckling to himself.  "Oh . . . how about this one . . . What happened to the Pilgrim who was shot at by an Indian?"  He paused for a moment to add to the suspense and then continued with the punch line, "He had an arrow escape."

Casey giggled as Nettie shook her head while trying not to smile.

"Or . . . what did the mother turkey say to her disobedient children?" continued JD with another joke.

"What?" asked Casey.

"If your father could see you now, he'd turn over in his gravy!" replied JD who began laughing.  "Turn over in his gravy . . . you get it?!?"  He began laughing even harder.

Nettie was trying her best not to laugh as she shook her head and said, "I think I'll make some coffee so it will be ready for the dessert."  The older woman stood and made a fast retreat to the kitchen to avoid any more jokes.

Once her aunt had left the room, Casey leaned over and whispered, "You don't have to be so nervous, JD, Nettie likes you. . ."

"I'm not nervous," replied the young man quickly while almost knocking over his glass for the second time that day.

Casey raised an eyebrow, his actions proving him completely wrong.

"Ok, maybe just a little," replied JD as he blushed.  "Is it that obvious?"

"Maybe just a little," replied Casey as she leaned over, her lips covering his for a soft tender kiss.

Her kiss took him by surprise but JD quickly caught up.  He placed a hand on her neck, his thumb lightly caressing her smooth skin as the teasing kiss continued.  And when it finally ended, Casey whispered, "But that's why I love you so much."

A blush crept across JD's cheeks as he smiled while thinking on this Thanksgiving he had a lot to be thankful . . . his health; six coworkers who he also considered good friends; and Casey, the girl who had stole his heart and who he loved.  Yep, it was a good Thanksgiving indeed.
